Heart Medication
  • Some medications may be prescribed to slow rapid heart rate to make heart beat more efficiently. Slowing rapid heart rate will also relieve palpitations, fatigue, dizziness, and shortness of breath. Some medications that can be prescribed to relieve rapid heart rate are: beta blockers, atenolol, metoprolol, verapamil, diltiazem, and digoxin.
  • Preventing blood clots and stroke can possibly be remedied by prescribing medication. Some possible medications are: anticoagulants, or blood thinners, that keep the blood from clotting. Another anticoagulant is coumadin, which reduces the risk of blood clot formation.
  • To restore the heart's normal rhythm doctors might prescribe the following medication: ibutilide, flecainide, propafenone, amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine, procainamide, or disopyramide.
