	Abnormal Heart Rhythm An abnormal heart rhythm, or arrhythmia, is a change in either the speed or pattern of the heartbeat. When a patient has an arrhythmia, it is possible for the heart to beat too slowly, rapidly, or irregularly.
Atrial Fibrillation In atrial fibrillation, many different areas within the atria try to initiate a heartbeat. Multiple tiny waves, or wavelets, of electrical activity flow across the atria in a continuously changing manner.
